It focuses on the king of Uruk Gilgamesh, and his quest for immortality after the death of his friend. These floods are a symbol. Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. The story of Genesis and the epic Gilgamesh have many similarities and differences. The Bible copied the flood story (from The Epic of Gilgamesh). He convinces the guards of the mountain, two Scorpion-man beings, to allow him to enter a long passage under the mountain. How Does the Hebrew Bible Relate to the Ancient Near Eastern World. Because of this, it is difficult to state with any certainty that the Epic directly influenced the stories of the Bible. Yet most significant is the greater fidelity of the Hebrew account. The Epic of Gilgamesh has been of interest to Christians ever since its discovery in the mid-nineteenth century in the ruins of the great library at Nineveh, with its account of a universal flood with significant parallels to the Flood of Noah's day. Of these, the best-known is probably the Epics flood story, which reads a lot like the biblical tale of Noahs ark (Gen 6-9). The flood in both stories destroys most of mankind. Utnapishtim and Noah from the bible maybe considered the same character. A Mesopotamian king from ~2500 B.C.E. Several versions of the epic poem exist, but the 12-tablet Akkadian version is the best known.
